8-Step Condition Grading System

Grade 8 – New in Box (NIB)
New, unused, and preserved in original condition with its original presentation box and accompanying materials as originally supplied. The pen shows no evidence of having been inked, carried, or used. Factory-sealed examples, when applicable, represent the highest level within this grade.

Grade 7 – Mint / As New
Exceptional condition with virtually no visible signs of use. The pen appears essentially new but may have been handled, inked, or previously owned without retaining all original packaging or materials.

Grade 6 – Near Mint
Outstanding condition with only extremely faint signs of careful handling or very light surface wear visible upon close inspection. No significant cosmetic or structural issues.

Grade 5 – Excellent
Light signs of normal, careful use, including minor surface marks or microscratching. The pen presents beautifully overall and remains structurally and mechanically sound.

Grade 4 – Very Good
Well cared for with visible but moderate signs of previous use. May show light scratches, minor trim wear, small marks, or age-related cosmetic changes while remaining attractive and fully serviceable.

Grade 3 – Good
Noticeable signs of use and age, including scratches, tarnish, fading, plating wear, discoloration, small dings, or other cosmetic imperfections. The pen remains a desirable and usable example, with any significant issues clearly disclosed.

Grade 2 – Fair / Well Used
Significant cosmetic wear or age-related deterioration. May include deeper scratches, dents, substantial plating loss, staining, worn imprints, repairs, replacement parts, or other noticeable imperfections. Servicing or restoration may be recommended.

Grade 1 – Restoration / Parts Grade
Major cosmetic, structural, or mechanical issues. May include cracks, broken or missing components, damaged nibs, failed filling systems, extensive wear, significant repairs, or non-original parts. Best suited for restoration, repair, or parts.
